Summary
Rive provides several ways to share and use your animations. You can export a runtime file for web and apps, a backup file for other designers, generate interactive share links, publish to the community marketplace, or render traditional formats like MP4 and GIF.
Step by Step
-
00:10
Export for Runtime (.riv)Click the "Export" button and select "Export for Runtime" to generate a tiny
.rivbinary file. This is the file you provide to developers for integration into websites, apps, or game engines. -
00:48
Backup File (.rev)Go to the top-left menu, select Export, and choose Backup (.rev). This file format preserves all editor data and is used for sharing projects with other designers.
-
01:21
Generate Share LinkSelect the desired artboard and animation, then click Generate Share Link. This creates a browser-accessible link or embed code that allows others to interact with your graphics.
-
02:08
Publish to MarketplaceUse this option to share your work with the Rive community. Note that users will be able to inspect, comment on, and remix your source file.
-
02:46
Render QueueFor traditional video formats, select Add to Render Queue. Choose your format (MP4, GIF, WebM, etc.), set the loop count and quality, then click play to start the cloud render.
Notes About Current Rive
- Runtime vs. Backup: Use
.rivfor implementation (code) and.revfor collaboration (designers). - Interactivity Limitation: Video renders (MP4, GIF) only capture a single timeline; they do not support State Machine interactions. Use Share Links or Runtime files if interactivity is required.
- Performance:
.rivfiles are highly optimized for performance, making them superior to traditional video formats for digital products.
